One Week Yoga Courses
Ashtanga Intensive
The Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali are an ancient text which lays out the foundational principles of the yoga philosophy. It’s system is known as “Ashtanga,” or 8 limbs, and it lays out a step by step path to self-knowledge and liberation. In our Ashtanga Intensive Course, the student will have the opportunity to explore several of these limbs at once through a holistic program of study which includes a focus on the primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The student will attend daily workshops on Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Yoga Nidra and Philosophy which will help them to develop and enrich their own personal practice. The course runs for 6 days, includes 5 classes a day and generally runs throughout the year.
Meditation
Meditation is the process of cultivating equanimity and awareness in the face of change. Through concentrating the mind the thought processes are gradually slowed and the practitioner develops a sense of their innate ability to witness their own patterns of sensation and reaction. Our meditation courses introduce the student to a wide variety of meditation techniques both led and silent, that include visualization, body awareness, mantra, trataka, chakra and dynamic meditations. Through consistent practice these techniques have been proven to generate a sense of peace and stability that practitioners can integrate into their day to day lives allowing them the space to observe the fundamental yogic principles of patience, kindness, compassion and joy.
Pranayama
Pranayama is the ancient yogic science of breath control. Since before recorded history, practitioners of Pranayama have learned to manipulate their physical processes, calm the nervous system and still the fluctuations of the mind using a variety of breathing techniques. Our Pranayama Intensives will introduce the student to a comprehensive overview of these techniques under the guidance of an accomplished master and help to integrate them safely and effectively into ones daily practice.
Healing
Our individualized healing sessions offer a holistic approach to health and wellness that is grounded in the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. Participants are taught techniques for self-healing that aim to penetrate the individuals consciousness at the deepest level. Relaxation, Self-awareness, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Gratitude and Surrender form the pillars of our methodology, and though the emphasis is on spiritual, emotional and mental health we have found a great deal of success in treating many psychosomatic disorders such as back pain, insomnia, breathing disorders, fatigue, Irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension and migraine.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep relaxation, meditation and self-exploration grounded in the ancient texts of yoga and tantra. During the practice, practitioners lie down in a relaxed position and are led through a sequence of awareness and visualization exercises. As the body relaxes the practitioner will begin to sink slowly into a state of subconscious awareness that generally characterizes the earliest stage of sleep, the hypnagogic state. As the practitioner becomes attuned to the practice, the extended contact with the deeper levels of the mind will allow them to process unresolved negative thoughts, unearth repressed memories and emotions and confront dysfunctional habit patterns in a gentle way, leaving them feeling refreshed, focused and rejuvenated.
